Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Im going to do: -First Steps -Lost Teeth -1st Lock of Hair -Sonogram Pictures -ID Tags or ambilical Cord Any More Ideas? I want to to do like a collaboration of Memorabilia but also pictures. Its not for me. Im going to give it as a gift to a friend.
There is a lot of “firsts” when you have a baby. Get a calendar and put it up somewhere where it’s easy to see and write on. Then when ever your baby does something, jot it down on the calendar. Then once a month or so you can take it from the calender and put it in the baby book. I did this for both my boys and it was nice because I didn;t have to try to remember when something actually happened. First photograph, footprints, birth announcement, news of the day(gas price!), pictures and info of baptism, height and weight charts, immunizations, medical records, dental info, details of first Christmas, birthday, other holidays, knows mother and father, discovers own hands and feet, reaches toward people or things, picks up objects, raises head, laughs, sleeps through the night, rolls over, crawls, sits up alone, aware of strangers, pulls self up, stands alone, climbs stairs, takes first steps, walks alone, holds bottle, holds spoon and attempts to feed self.

how would you make a baby blanket with pictures, scrapbook style?

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

My grandaughter will be 1 in March. I would like to make her a blanket with pictures. I know I could transfer pictures from computer. Does anyone know a website with directions? I'm not an advanced sewer but I do have a sewing machine? Thanks for all help.

I think you can get all you need at a fabric store (or online). They sell transfer papers, etc., for fabric, and should have info about doing it, either in books (especially in the quilting section) or just asking someone (especially if you go to a quilt store, not just a regular fabric store).

Not exactly sure what you mean about a "scrapbook style" blanket… do you mean that you want each of the pictures to be "framed" on the quilt, or something else?

If you want to make a "blanket" instead of a quilt, I guess you'd have to sew the transferred images-on-fabric onto the surface of a "blanket' of your choice –like doing "appliques".
If you want the fabric pictures to be part of the cover though, that would be a "pieced" "quilt", not a blanket per se (and a "lapquilt" or play quilt of about 4×5' will be a lot more manageable for a first quilt than a bed-sized one! I've made a ton of them, and kids are always telling me when they're older how much they loved having them for naps and all kinds of play.)

Check out some of these links on making a "memory quilt":

(they should have more info about the whole process of transferring images to fabric too).

Good luck, I know it will be loved!

Oh, and p.s…. if you're interested in making "pictures" of various kinds for your granddaughter, I LOVE this type (it's in "fabric book" form, but could also be pillows or another lapquilt, etc.) The book is called Fabric Picture Books, by Gwen Marston (amazon used = $7, even less at e-bay)
In this case, an image is selected from a fabric (animal, person, item, scene, color, etc.), then framed with 4 strips of (different fabric, but could be same fabric). The soft book is made two "pages" at a time which are then sewn together down the middle.
Here's a mini-lesson:

And here's a different type… this one's a full quilt:

(those would only be "memory quilts" though if you used fabric images that meant something to her life, or even used transfers… they can also be good for learning colors, textures, zoo animals, I-Spy, or just about anything)

Putting positive pregnancy test in baby's scrapbook?

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I was planning on doing this, but my mom thinks it is disgusting. She says she can't believe I didn't throw it in the trash right away. If I put the test in a plastic baggie, it really isn't that gross, right? Please share your opinions about this….Thanks.

I've kept the 3 from my 3.5 year old and i've kept the 3 i took with this pregnancy (due on christmas eve)

If it's a normal test, you can normally open them up and get the strip out of there.. then you don't have this big bulky test, and no pee. :) (if the pee part is attached you can cut it off)
The digital tests are pretty neat to pop open. you got the 2 lines, and no pee. :)

I don't think it's gross at all.. most people i know have either kept it for the babybook or just kept it period. Mine from 4 years ago still look the same as they did when i took them.

Blank scrapbook page for baby shower?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I have been invited to a baby shower. With the invitation, they gave me a blank scrapbook page to decorate. They gave page ideas such as: recipes, advice on being a new parent, scripture verses, helpful hints, ect.

The mother and people attending are very religous, and I don't want to offend them in whatever I put on this page. I thought a poem about a baby would be nice, but probably wouldn't take up much room. I have the front and back of the page to decorate.

Anyone have any ideas?

put the poem on the center of the page with colorful paper behind it as a border (takes up space). go to walmart or a craft store (almost everyone sells scrapbook stuff these days) and buy some cute "baby stickers" to decorate the page. (more space taken) on the back page spell out the word LOVE with letter stickers and stick a peice of fancy jounaling paper on there and write : we love you so… and leave the rest blank for mom and dad to write something.
if you have kids you could write some helpful hints on a page.
or write stuff like always say your prayers and add a bible verse.

Are there any baby scrapbook ideas?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Was wondering if anyone had any good baby scrapbook ideas, or if anyone knew of any good websites for baby scrapbooks.

I wonder if your photos are digital or not. If they are, there are some great sites that offer digital scrapbooks and all you do is click and drop your photos into pre-designed pages. Click on the link below for FREE software to create a digital scrapbook.

If they are not digital, you can always purchase baby kits.
